5 Glowing Christmas Celebrations Using Beeswax Candles

For many years, candles have been intrinsically linked to the Holiday season, bathing Christmas in the soft glow of festive celebration.

All over the world, people celebrate the season with Christmas candles in different forms to keep their traditions alive and well. In ancient times, people used candles in Winter Solstice celebrations to honour the impending spring.

Candles were actually the original Christmas decorations when Christmas tree candles were used, before the safer electric lights replaced them in the mid-1900s. Today, candles still have the power to evoke the joyful spirit of the holiday season. Here are 5 Christmas celebrations using a pure beeswax candle we love:

5 Glowing Christmas Celebrations Using Beeswax Candles:

1. Lighting Advent Candles

Christmas candles have been used for centuries, and one of the earliest records traces back to the Middle Ages when a large pillar candle represented the Star of Bethlehem. It is suspected that this tradition led to the adoption of the custom of lighting Advent Candles leading up to Christmas Day.

Advent season marks the coming of Christmas, lit by the glow of candlelight to encourage reflection and eager expectation. This celebratory ritual involves the lighting of four or five candles, one lit each Sunday leading up to Christmas Day. Traditionally, the lighting of the Christmas candles is done collectively as a family or community as a way to bring joy to the season And creating a cozy ambiance.

2. Irish Yule Candles

In several parts of Ireland, folks will follow the tradition of using a Yule candle in place of a Yule log.

Tradition states  that in Irish households, after sunset on Christmas Eve, families would place a tall, thick candle on the sill of their largest window. This Christmas candle would be left to burn all night through Christmas morning. The illuminating glow would represent a beacon of hope as a welcoming light for Mary and Joseph.

Our Angel beeswax candle or Byron Light pillar candles made from natural Beeswax are the perfect fit for this warm tradition.

3. Give the Gift of Christmas Candle Cheer

In recent years, a more modern tradition has taken hold—lighting a merry Christmas candle on Christmas Eve to usher in the holiday and festive spirit.

This new tradition lends itself to the gift-giving aspect of the season, as a beautiful Christmas beeswax candle makes for wonderful unique gifts for your loved one.

4. Chinese Christmas Candle Lanterns

In China, Christians who celebrate the holiday will decorate their Christmas trees with paper lanterns and their own candles.

These beautifully intricate “Trees of Light” are adorned with beautiful candle, lanterns, paper chains, and flowers. Our glowing beeswax candle lanterns are the perfect touch for the festivities of the season.

5. Australia’s Carols by Candlelight

In 1937, a Melbourne radio announcer was walking home from his Christmas Eve shift when he happened upon an elderly woman sitting alone in bed. Her face lit up by the soft glow of a Christmas candle, she sang along to “Away in a Manger” on the radio.

He was struck by the notion that many people must be spending Christmas alone, and this inspired him to gather a large group of people to sing Christmas carols together by candlelight.

The first official event was held on Christmas in 1938 and was attended by over 10,000 people.

Today, the tradition has spread all over the world, with people gathering in a park to sing carols by candlelight
